Déjà Vu: Collar ID

I was catching up on my blog reading and came across this wonderful image by Sart, of a young lad in Florence sporting a club collar.

It immediately had me saying…George Emerson, is that you?

Déjà Vu: Sole Similarity

Watching the Gucci live stream from Milan earlier, I did a double take when I saw these sandals from the label’s FW10 collection.

Sandals with socks @ Gucci FW10/11.

Well, they are the sole sisters (no DNA test required) of these Other Italians…by Miuccia Prada for FW07.

Two panel sandal with semi-socks @ Prada FW07.

I didn’t like the Prada ones at all until I saw Giovanna Battaglia in them, as captured by Sart. The lighter ones really do look like the Guccis, don’t they?

Bloggers in Vogue?

Rumours have been frolicking around the wonderful wide web that a few famous fashion bloggers will be featured in the March issue of Vogue.

Word is that the likes of Tommy Ton, Bryanboy, Sart, Garance and Face Hunter have been asked to sign a confidentiality agreement so they don’t blab/blog about it before Anna gets her printed 2 cents in.

Writing about fashion - old school no more.

Guess Ms. Wintour has Googled the word “blog” and is over her fear of the digital realm?

She still doesn’t think our editorial is worthy of her standards, however.

I don’t know, Your Editor-ness, I did have couture dreams the other night. Our paths may cross yet…

Fashion Dilemma: What to Wear to Work on Monday?

Here I am, Sunday night…and I have no idea what to wear to work tomorrow. It’s that inbetween weather – neither cold nor hot, still sort of summer, but not quite autumn.

So, I avoided thought of it and decided to figure it out tomorrow (read: I’ll be late for work)…opting to catch up on my blog feeds instead.

And, as always, Sart has given me the perfect inspiration by capturing these two looks.

I love the rolled sleeves on the trench, the pairing of simple separates but most of all – the ease of this look – as worn by Liberty’s Yasmin Sewell.

And here, I love the pseudo-jodhpurs in military green, love the vest paired with them and the contrast of the shoe. Again, the ease is the thing here.

So my inspiration for tomorrow? Ease + great pants + levelled layers. Done and dressed.

While you are there, check out the great shots of Scott and company at his NY book signing by Joe Ferrucci - they seem to have been taken in a different era.

Giovanna Battaglia is No Minimalist

…She admits to having 352 pairs of shoes.

Givonna B, whom we were first introduced to by the one and only Sartorialist, is quite the fash celeb these days. The Fashion Editor of L’Uomo Vogue was interviewed recently by Karin Nelson of the New York Times about her style.

The short interview is filled with great one-liners like this one…

It’s funny, since Sart started his site, I’ve always save photos of her for inspiration. I didn’t know who she was until about  a year ago. I love how she pairs basics with interesting accessories and layers. I normally don’t fall for the signature shoe or bag of the season…but Giovanna takes Sept issue ad pieces and makes them special.

A great example is below, where she took the Prada shoe that was in every ad – and that you were sick of before they ever hit the stores. She chose the soft pink version, got rid of the silly socks that Miuccia showed them with and paired them with a simple white shift.

All of a sudden it wasn’t That Shoe. Genius.

Sart “does” Toronto

Unless you’ve been living under a rock this past week, you know that a fashion blogging rock star was in town. Scott Schuman, better known as The Sartorialist, was doing the meet and greet thing at Holt’s and the Drake, followed by a shoot for Burberry the following day.

I avoided the whole thing, preferring a future fateful fashion meeting in the Tuileries, over Toronto. I simply enjoyed watching/listening from the sidelines this time around.

The most entertaining piece of press had to be Amy Verner’s interview with Sart: Sex and the Sartorialist. It’s honest, direct and funny as hell. Here’s an excerpt:

AV: What’s your weakness when it comes to shooting people?
SS: I have a weakness for surprises. I want to see something I haven’t seen. I’m totally ambiguous sexually when it comes to my work. I shoot what I’m attracted to.

AV: Can you tell when people are trying too hard?
SS: Uh, yeah.

Scott’s book is being released on August 18. Hurry and pre-order if you want the limited edition hard cover. They are bound (no pun intended – oh wait – maybe it was) to sell out. Paperback also available same date for a fraction of the price.

Ciao Amore!

Scott Schuman AKA The Sartorialist  just did a piece for men.style.com on the greatest hits of Spring 2010, featuring his usual brilliant photo portraits of,  in this case, men in and around the shows.

The feature is extra special because Scott adds a comment on each man’s style.

This one just had me screaming YES!

Florence “What is great style? Sometimes it’s something that’s intangible. I think anyone who looks at the guy would say, ‘He looks great.’ But let’s be honest: The suit’s nice, the shirt’s nice, but it’s really about the hair and the smile, something as easy as having a really genuine style and a relaxed attitude. It’s something that most women really notice. Something like that—spending time working on your own confidence—can be just as worthwhile as spending X amount of money on a new suit.” -Scott Schuman

That sound you just heard? That was “most women” nodding in unison. Sorry girls, but I am claiming this Italian gentleman for myself. Finders keepers.
