Resorting to the LBD

Now a girl can’t wear Intergalactic Glamour everyday. And sometimes, Gothenticity needs a softer edge.

Of course, Karl knows this. Along with the ’20s inspired flapper numbers he whipped up for the Chanel Resort 2010 collection, there was a wonderful assortment of the little (and longer!) black dress.

Under the boardwalk. Bored. Walk. The anything but boring lace, off the shoulder LBD.

Oh, the sigh-ren call of that necklace.

Demure and dazzling all in one racy, lacy shot!

The (nice) vamp next door. The shoes don't lie.

Flappergasted

The great recession of the Noughties? This is no Valley of Ashes, my friends. Decadence is still in full swing, where else, but at Chanel.

Karl Lagerfeld recalled the roaring ’20s for his Resort 2010 collection for the House that flourished in the flapper era.

Prints + stockings + jewelled accents = '20s perfection

The mix of prints, borders, low-slung belt and minauderie are perfect ’20s accoutrements. The platforms and proportions make it a perfect look for today.

If Cleo lived in the '20s, she'd surely be wearing this, n'est pas?

Karl shortens the typical skirt length from the era, introducing medieval gold accents and mixing it with a bit of mod. Brilliance and Karl do go hand in hand, after all.

The jewels are the medieval elements in the next look. Love the harsh metal against the soft, printed chiffon. That necklace could change the state of everything in your closet – and mine.

Medieval medallions embellish this flapper

These looks are ultra Lagerfeld, but part of his brilliance is that he has such respect for Coco Chanel’s spirit and vision. That always comes through in each collection. I can see her wearing this dress today…

Loco for Coco

Maybe this nod to the ’20s is Karl’s subtle way of telling us to keep reaching for Fitzgerald’s green light.
Live the dream – American or otherwise.

Frilly, flirty, floaty and fantastic
