Eight Japanese designers took part in the first day of shows at Lakme Fashion Week in Mumbai – on a day where their homeland was shaken to its very core by a devastating earthquake and tsunami.
The designers – part of a roster of 78 in total at one of India’s primary fashion weeks (Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week AW11 will be held in Delhi in April) – were part of a cross-cultural exchange program called Tokyoeye, with Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.
Despite the shadow of what was going on in Japan, the scheduled show did go on.
The moment for these talents, surely must have been bittersweet.
I’ll have lots more from Lakme Fashion Week in the coming days.
